Daily 10
Founded in 2004, Daily10 is one of a pair of newspapers (the only such in the English language) for children in Hong Kong. Both are published by Step Max Ltd under license from Play Bac, Daily10 is for children aged 8 to 11.
Daily10 provides age appropriate, informative and educational reading material, every day, from Monday to Saturday. The newspaper is an important tool to aid English literacy. Readers are exposed to cross curriculum vocabulary and different writing styles in a news-driven context.
Literary experts agree that reading for 10 minutes every day is the best way to improve a child's reading ability and knowledge of a language. Daily10 aims to give children something they want to read and are keen to learn from. However, research has also shown that the more parental involvement in a child's education, the greater the chance that child has of high achievement.
Daily10 is for the more advanced reader as it has much denser text and uses more complex language, in terms of vocabulary and sentence construction, compared to Daily7. It is therefore suitable for older children, whose English is of a more advanced level. For native or fluent English speakers this generally means 8 to 11 year olds. However, Daily10 has many older (non-native or non-fluent English speaking) readers from, for example, secondary and language schools.
The sister publication is Daily7 which is for the early reader. This generally means ages 5 to 8 if they are native or fluent English speaking children. However, the simple, direct use of language in Daily7 means that many older children (who are not native or fluent English speakers) can also enjoy reading and learning from Daily7.
